RAWALPINDI: Former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, addressed the media and legal representatives from Adiala Jail, strongly defending the Al-Qadir Trust, dismissing allegations against his wife Bushra Bibi, and calling for the establishment of a judicial commission to investigate alleged human rights violations in Pakistan.
Khan stated that the Al-Qadir Trust was purely a welfare initiative aimed at providing education and uplifting underprivileged students by teaching them about the life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). He clarified that the project predates the agreement between property tycoon Malik Riaz and the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA). Khan said, “The cabinet played no role in transferring funds; it only approved the confidentiality of the Non-Disclosure Agreement to enable foreign exchange flow into Pakistan. Let the government open the so-called sealed envelope to reveal the truth to the public.”
Defending his wife, Bushra Bibi, Khan expressed outrage over her imprisonment and the political targeting of women: “Bushra Bibi spent nine-and-a-half months in jail just to punish her for supporting me. Dragging housewives into politics is disgraceful and against our values.” Khan described Bushra Bibi as a source of strength and dismissed allegations of personal gain from the trust.
Call for International Human Rights Support
Khan also raised concerns over human rights violations in Pakistan, particularly regarding the deaths of “innocent, unarmed citizens.” He urged his legal team, including Salman Akram Raja and Barrister Gohar, to write to the Chief Justice of Pakistan and Justice Aminuddin Khan to prioritize hearings of human rights cases. “Our people were martyred, and their families deserve justice. Negotiations without a judicial commission are meaningless,” Khan remarked.
Khan concluded by instructing his team to reach out to international human rights organizations for support, calling for global attention to the issues in Pakistan.
