Imran Khan to Meet PTI Negotiation Team Amid Key Talks with Government

Islamabad, Pakistan – Former Prime Minister Imran Khan is set to meet members of his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) negotiation team on Sunday at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. This meeting comes amid ongoing political consultations with the government aimed at resolving the political impasse that has gripped Pakistan since Khan’s removal from office in 2022.

The National Assembly spokesperson confirmed the meeting in a statement, adding that it will take place at 2:30 p.m. local time following requests from PTI for unfettered access to their jailed leader.

Stalemate in Talks

Negotiations between the PTI and the government began last month to address the political deadlock. The last round of talks on January 2 ended without resolution after PTI requested additional time to consult Khan regarding their demands.

PTI has outlined two key conditions:

1. The release of all political prisoners.
2. The establishment of judicial commissions to investigate the May 9, 2023 and Nov. 26, 2024 protests.

The government accuses PTI supporters of instigating violent attacks on military installations and government properties during these protests.

Khan, who was ousted in a parliamentary no-confidence vote in 2022, has been imprisoned since August 2023 on corruption charges. His party has consistently organized protests demanding his release, with some demonstrations turning violent.

Talks between the two sides gained urgency after Khan recently threatened to launch a civil disobedience movement. His party remains concerned about the possibility of a military trial for Khan over allegations of incitement during the May 9 protests.
