The Sindh High Court has decided to put on hold all constitutional petitions pending before it until the formation of constitutional benches. This decision comes after a provincial law officer informed the court that the Sindh Assembly had approved a resolution necessary for
creating such benches on November 4.

A two-judge bench, comprising Chief Justice Mohammad Shafi Siddiqui and Justice Jawad Akbar Sarwana, ruled that only constitutional benches can exercise jurisdiction under Article 199 of the Constitution. However, existing benches will continue to handle other
jurisdictions as assigned in the roster.

• Constitutional Benches: Only these benches can exercise jurisdiction under Article 199.
• Existing Benches: Will continue to handle other jurisdictions as assigned.
• Sindh Assembly Resolution: Approved on November 4, paving the way for constitutional benches.

This development highlights the importance of constitutional benches in handling critical cases. The court's decision ensures that these benches are properly established before proceeding with constitutional petitions.
