The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has appointed former Pakistan captain Younis Khan as the national team's mentor for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy. Younis, who boasts an impressive record of over 10,000 Test runs and more than 7,000 ODI runs, will join Afghanistan's conditioning and preparation camp in Pakistan, providing mentorship until the tournament concludes.

Experience and Expertise

The ACB's CEO, Naseeb Khan, highlighted the need for a seasoned mentor from the host country, given that the Champions Trophy will be held in Pakistan. Younis Khan’s vast experience is expected to greatly benefit the Afghan team during the eight-nation event, scheduled from February 19 to March 9.

Tournament Details

The Champions Trophy, returning after seven years, will feature matches in Pakistan and Dubai, with the final slated for March 9 in Lahore, unless India qualifies, in which case it will be played in Dubai. Afghanistan’s first match is on February 21 against South Africa in Karachi.
