Crowds gathered in cities like Gaza City, Khan Younis, and Nuseirat Camp, chanting, embracing, and waving flags as news spread. “I can’t believe this nightmare is finally over,” said Randa Sameeh, displaced from Gaza City. “We’ve lost so much, but today we have hope.”
The ceasefire includes a critical prisoner exchange: captives held in Gaza will be released in exchange for Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons. With over 46,700 Palestinians killed and 110,000 injured since October 2023, this truce offers a desperately needed pause to the devastation.
Residents expressed cautious optimism as they looked forward to reuniting with displaced families and rebuilding their lives. Abdul Karim, separated from his wife and children for nearly a year, said, “I can’t wait to see them again. This is a day of hope.”
