ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) announced the complete restoration of internet services across Pakistan following the repair of a defect in the SMW4 submarine cable.

The PTA reported that internet connectivity was reinstated after a 4-month outage, which stemmed from issues in the SMW4 cable (June) and the AAE1 cable (August). This restoration has eliminated a 1,750 Gbps shortfall in bandwidth.

The addition of the Pace cable in 2023 has already enhanced network capacity, and further expansions are planned. Over the next two years, three new cables from Transworld International (2) and PTCL (1) will be integrated into the system to support growing demand.
