Lahore Traffic Police Urges Motorcyclists to Obtain or Renew Licenses by November 30
Lahore’s motorcyclists have until November 30, 2024, to take advantage of the special relief for obtaining or renewing licenses. A crackdown on unlicensed riders is planned after the deadline.
Motorcyclists in Lahore have just two days left to take advantage of the special relief provided by the Punjab government, which allows them to obtain or renew their driving and learning licenses before the deadline on November 30, 2024. This initiative simplifies the licensing process by issuing licenses immediately after passing the driving test, eliminating the previous 42-day waiting period for a learner's permit.
Key Features:
- Instant License Issuance: Riders can get their licenses immediately after passing the driving test, removing the long waiting period.
- Cash-Free Processing: The requirement for cash handling at licensing centers has been removed, and only the CNIC is needed for processing.
- Impact of the Reform: Over 1.2 million citizens have benefited from this scheme, with 460,940 learning licenses, 764,961 regular driving licenses, and over 185,000 renewals completed.
End of the Relief Period:
- Deadline: The relief period ends on November 30, 2024.
- Crackdown: After this date, the government plans a crackdown on unlicensed riders, which may involve fines of Rs. 2,000 or even seizure of motorcycles.
Helmet Safety Initiative:
- Focus on Helmet Use: As part of road safety efforts, the Lahore traffic police have been enforcing helmet laws. Prior to this relief package, 9,956 riders were penalized for not wearing helmets. The initiative aims to reduce head injuries, a leading cause of fatalities in motorcycle accidents.
