Hollywood actor Mel Gibson has come under fire for controversial comments linking California's devastating wildfires to alleged water mismanagement and intentional land clearing. His remarks have reignited conspiracy theories, drawing widespread criticism.
Gibson Suggests Wildfires Could Be "Intentional"
During a January 10 appearance on The Ingraham Angle on Fox News, the 69-year-old actor shared his thoughts on California’s wildfire crisis, claiming, “They were messing with the water… letting reserves go for one reason or another.” He further questioned whether the fires were part of a deliberate plan to clear land for high-density housing, echoing claims made by others, including President-elect Donald Trump.
The fires, which have destroyed thousands of homes, including Gibson's own property, were described by the actor as "too convenient." He added, "It’s pretty scary… you start to wonder if there’s a purpose behind it.” Gibson also suggested that some individuals may be starting fires intentionally, speculating about their motives.
Criticism and Support
Gibson's comments were met with agreement from Fox host Laura Ingraham, who suggested that rebuilding efforts could align with a broader push for high-density housing across California. Critics, however, have slammed the remarks as baseless and inflammatory. Many have labeled the theories as harmful distractions from the urgent issues of climate change and disaster management.
Gibson’s History of Controversial Statements
This isn’t the first time Gibson has courted controversy. While some supporters argue he is raising valid questions about California’s environmental policies, others view his statements as fueling misinformation during a time of crisis.
