Noman Ali Dismisses Pitch Criticism as Second Test Turns into ‘One-Innings Match’
The second Test between Pakistan and West Indies in Multan has turned into a fierce battle of spin, with 20 wickets falling on the opening day.
Multan, Pakistan: The second Test between Pakistan and West Indies in Multan has turned into a fierce battle of spin, with 20 wickets falling on the opening day. Pakistan spinner Noman Ali stole the spotlight, claiming 6 for 41 and becoming the first Pakistan spinner to record a Test hat-trick, as West Indies were bowled out for 163. However, the hosts fell short in their reply, managing just 154, with West Indies' Jomel Warrican and Gudakesh Motie sharing seven wickets.
Speaking after the day's play, Noman Ali acknowledged the challenging conditions but remained focused:
"Such a match was bound to happen under these conditions. We'll aim to bowl West Indies out quickly and avoid giving away easy runs, especially from the tailenders," said Noman.
This match continues Pakistan’s trend of producing spin-friendly pitches for home Tests. While such pitches have drawn criticism, Noman defended the team’s approach, saying:
"When Tests went to five days, people criticized us for no results. Now, results come in two or three days, and we still face criticism. For us, the focus is on achieving positive outcomes."
West Indies assistant coach James Franklin admitted that both batting orders have struggled:
"The pitch offers inconsistent spin and bounce, making it difficult for batters. Surviving the first 20-30 balls is key to building an innings," said Franklin. He emphasized the importance of setting small targets and partnerships, saying that 30-40 run stands could be game-changers in this Test.
The match now hangs in the balance, with West Indies holding a slender lead. As both teams grapple with the conditions, every run and wicket could determine the outcome.
