Pakistan Confirms Anti-Terrorist Operation in Border Areas Amid Security Threats

On Thursday, Pakistan's Foreign Office (FO) officially confirmed the country’s recent intelligence-based operation against terrorist elements in Afghanistan’s border regions. This operation, which included an airstrike on Tuesday night, was a response to ongoing security threats to Pakistani citizens.

The operation targeted several suspected terrorist camps in Afghanistan's Paktika province, believed to be associated with the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Pakistan’s security forces conducted the airstrike with the aim of neutralizing these threats.

The announcement comes amid rising tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, with frequent border skirmishes and Pakistan's repeated calls for Afghanistan to take action against the TTP. However, Kabul has consistently denied these allegations.

During a media briefing in Islamabad, FO spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch reiterated that Pakistan remains committed to protecting its citizens and securing its borders. She emphasized that the operation was a direct response to threats posed by terrorist elements, but also clarified that Pakistan values dialogue and mutual respect in its relations with Afghanistan.

Baloch also assured that such operations are carried out with utmost care and preparation, aiming to safeguard Pakistani citizens while respecting Afghanistan’s territorial integrity. Despite the tension, she reiterated Pakistan’s stance on prioritizing dialogue over conflict in bilateral relations.

Key Points:

  • Pakistan’s operation targeted terrorist camps in Afghanistan’s Paktika province.
  • Afghanistan’s Taliban government strongly protested the airstrike, warning against any violation of its sovereignty.
  • Pakistan stressed that it prioritizes security and diplomatic dialogue with Afghanistan.
