Pakistan Confirms First Monkeypox Case in 2025

slamabad, January 25 – Pakistan has reported its first monkeypox (mpox) case of 2025, according to ARY News. The patient, identified during screening at Peshawar airport upon returning from Dubai on January 24, has been moved to the isolation ward at Services Hospital Peshawar for treatment.

This brings the total number of confirmed mpox cases in Pakistan to 10 since a health emergency was declared. The Ministry of Health confirmed the patient’s recent travel history to Gulf nations, raising concerns about the virus's potential spread.

Previously, another passenger traveling from Sharjah tested positive during medical screening at the airport. Javed Ahmed, a resident of Rajanpur, was also isolated after displaying mpox symptoms. Authorities have described the situation as alarming and are implementing strict health protocols to prevent further spread.

Monkeypox, caused by the Mpox virus, primarily spreads through close contact with infected individuals or animals. It typically presents with a rash starting on the face and spreading to other body parts, along with symptoms like fever, exhaustion, and swollen lymph nodes. The disease has an incubation period of 5 to 21 days and usually lasts 2 to 4 weeks.

The Ministry of Health has assured citizens that effective measures are being taken to control the outbreak and protect public health.
