Islamabad, Pakistan – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the urgent need to prepare Pakistan's youth for international job markets through targeted skill development, particularly in the information technology (IT) sector, during a meeting on youth employment and skill development held in Islamabad on Tuesday.
With nearly 64% of Pakistan’s population under the age of 30, Sharif highlighted the immense potential for economic growth if this demographic is adequately trained and employed. However, he also acknowledged challenges such as unemployment, limited access to quality education, and the risks of social unrest due to untapped potential.
Digital Initiatives for Youth Employment
The prime minister announced plans to launch the Prime Minister Digital Youth Hub, a platform aimed at providing young Pakistanis with comprehensive employment information and services. He directed the initiative to be user-friendly and accessible in English, Urdu, and regional languages, ensuring inclusivity.
Sharif also underscored the importance of enhancing the private sector to create domestic employment opportunities while collaborating with Gulf nations and other friendly countries to secure overseas jobs for young Pakistanis.
Crackdown on Fraudulent Practices
The PM called for stringent action against unlicensed companies involved in fraudulent overseas employment schemes to safeguard workers and restore public trust in such opportunities.
“Pakistan’s future is tied to the growth of the IT sector and the professional development of our youth,” Sharif said, urging for a strategic alignment with the demands of global markets.
