Women-Only Driving Schools Established Across Lahore
Lahore introduces 10 women-only driving schools to empower women, with a reduced waiting period for road test retakes, part of broader gender equality efforts.
Lahore has introduced ten new women-only driving schools aimed at enhancing women’s mobility and independence, local media reported. The initiative, led by Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Amara Tahir, provides female-only driving classes across multiple locations, including Greater Iqbal Park, Kahna Misaq Center, and Defence Khidmat Markaz.
The schools, staffed exclusively by female instructors, operate from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., catering to women’s schedules and making driving lessons more accessible.
“By offering a women-to-women service, we hope to make driving more accessible and empower women in Lahore,” said CTO Amara Tahir, emphasizing the importance of providing a comfortable learning environment for women.
These facilities aim to instill confidence in female learners, promoting self-sufficiency and enabling greater participation in public life.
In a related move, the Punjab government has reduced the waiting period for retaking the road driving test. Previously set at 42 days, candidates can now attempt the test again after just 15 days, making it more convenient for aspiring drivers.
This initiative is part of broader efforts to improve gender equality and increase female participation across various sectors in Lahore.
