LAHORE: Pakistan’s rising cricket star, Saim Ayub, will not require surgery for the ankle injury sustained during the second Test against South Africa in Cape Town earlier this month, according to a statement from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Thursday.
The 22-year-old opener will begin his rehabilitation in London this month. Specialists will remove his ankle support brace once his condition allows him to bear weight on his feet, after which he will return to Pakistan to complete his recovery.
Saim, known for his aggressive batting style, twisted his ankle while fielding during the match at Newlands. The injury has ruled him out of the ongoing two-Test home series against the West Indies and the upcoming tri-nation ODI series featuring Pakistan, South Africa, and New Zealand. Additionally, his participation in the ICC Champions Trophy starting February 19 in Karachi remains uncertain.
The talented left-hander has been sidelined for six weeks with an ankle fracture. In his brief career, Saim has already impressed, scoring 515 runs in nine ODIs at an average of 64.37, including two centuries during Pakistan’s recent 3-0 ODI series win in South Africa.
