Imran Khan Reacts to £190m Al-Qadir Trust Sentence: Blames Nawaz Sharif

ISLAMABAD: Former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi have been convicted in the £190 million Al-Qadir Trust case, with Khan sentenced to 14 years in prison and Bushra Bibi receiving a seven-year jail term. The couple was accused of accepting land as a bribe from real estate tycoon Malik Riaz in exchange for laundering money.

In his first reaction, Imran Khan called the case "baseless" and accused former PM Nawaz Sharif of orchestrating the charges. A statement from Khan’s official account claimed that the Shehbaz Sharif-led government was making a “mockery of themselves on the global stage,” further alleging political motives behind the conviction.

The case revolves around a £190 million settlement repatriated to Pakistan in 2019, which authorities claim was misused by Khan’s government to benefit Riaz instead of being deposited into the national treasury. Both Khan and Bushra Bibi deny any wrongdoing.
