Karachi Man Arrested for Abusing Daughter, Shaving Her Head Over Marriage Choice

In a harrowing case of family abuse, Naz Fatima, a young nurse working at Dow University of Health Sciences, was rescued by Karachi police after being wrongfully confined and mistreated by her family. Fatima, who had expressed her desire to marry a man of her choosing, was subjected to severe punishment, including physical assault and having her head shaved, as retaliation for her decision.

The incident unfolded when Quaidabad police, led by SHO Farasat Shah, conducted a raid at the family’s home in Daud Chali, Quaidabad. During the operation, they arrested four individuals, including Fatima’s father, Niaz Husain, and her uncle, Kaleem Husain, in connection with the abuse. Fatima, in her statement to the police, revealed that her father and uncle had beaten her, forcibly shaved her head, and confined her against her will for pursuing her own marriage choice.

Fatima, who had been living with her mother and three sisters after her parents’ separation, described the escalating tensions within her family. For the past month, her father had pressured her and her sisters to move back in with him. The situation grew more alarming on December 12, when her father allegedly assaulted her and her sisters, forcing them to seek refuge at a friend’s home. However, on December 20, the situation turned even more violent when her father, uncle, and other relatives barged into the safe house, assaulted Fatima, tore her clothes, and shaved her head.

Following this brutal incident, Fatima managed to contact her lawyer, who alerted the authorities. The police intervened and arrested the suspects, who now face charges under various sections of the Pakistan Penal Code, including wrongful confinement, assault, and causing harm to a woman’s dignity. The investigation is ongoing, and the authorities are committed to ensuring that justice is served.

The case has sparked widespread condemnation and raised important questions about women’s rights and safety in abusive family situations. Women’s rights organizations have expressed their concerns, calling for stronger measures to protect women from violence and ensure their autonomy in matters such as marriage. Fatima’s case serves as a poignant reminder of the ongoing struggle against domestic abuse in Pakistan.
