Sri Lanka Claims Hong Kong Super Sixes Title with Victory Over Pakistan

Sri Lanka triumphed in the Hong Kong World Super Sixes tournament, securing their second title in this format by defeating Pakistan by three wickets in a thrilling final at Mong Kok Stadium on Sunday.

After winning the toss, Sri Lanka opted to bowl first and quickly seized control of the match by dismantling Pakistan’s top order. The team struggled to build momentum, with two wickets falling in the opening over. Batsman Mohammad Ikhlaq emerged as the standout performer for Pakistan, scoring a determined 48 runs, but he received minimal support from his teammates. Faheem Ashraf chipped in with 13 runs, while Aamer Yamin, Asif Ali, and Hussain Talat contributed just six, zero, and one run respectively, leaving Pakistan with a total of 72 runs in their six overs.

Dhananjaya Lakshan and Tharindu Rathnayake were instrumental for Sri Lanka, each claiming two wickets and applying consistent pressure on Pakistan’s batting lineup.

In response, Sri Lanka approached their chase cautiously. Sandun Weerakkody led the way with a top score of 34 runs, supported by captain Lahiru Madushanka, who added a quick 19 runs. Sri Lanka successfully chased down the target of 73 runs with an over to spare, finishing at 73 for three.

Faheem Ashraf delivered a spirited performance for Pakistan, claiming two wickets, but it was not enough to impede Sri Lanka's steady march toward victory. This title victory not only highlights Sri Lanka’s consistent prowess in short-format cricket but also leaves Pakistan reflecting on their journey to the final after a determined effort throughout the tournament.
