ISLAMABAD: In a bid to combat fraudulent travel practices, Thailand has introduced strict measures targeting Pakistani travelers submitting fake documentation, according to ARY News.
The Thai Consulate in Karachi has issued updated guidelines mandating travelers to provide authentic documentation, including valid airline tickets and hotel reservations, for e-visa applications. Individuals or travel agencies caught submitting forged documents will face severe penalties, including permanent blacklisting.
This crackdown follows an October incident where Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) apprehended two individuals at Karachi's Jinnah International Airport for attempting to travel with counterfeit visas. One suspect, Umme Salma, was caught with a fake Iraqi visa while boarding flight IA-432 to Iraq. The other, Nazar Abbas, was detained with a fraudulent Cuban visa while preparing to fly to the Turks and Caicos Islands on flight TK-709.
FIA Travel Advisory to Combat Human Trafficking
In response to rising concerns over human trafficking, Pakistan’s FIA has, for the first time in 20 years, issued a comprehensive travel advisory. The advisory focuses on monitoring passengers aged 15-40 traveling on FlyDubai and Ethiopian Airlines, particularly those heading to identified transit hubs for trafficking, such as Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Iran, and Azerbaijan.
Enhanced profiling will also target passengers from specific Pakistani cities, including Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Sialkot, Gujranwala, and Sheikhupura. The advisory stems from an analysis of travel data from July to December, highlighting trends in illegal migration.
These measures underline both Pakistan’s and Thailand’s commitment to curbing illegal travel and ensuring safer migration practices.
