4 Women Dead, Baby Missing in Hassanabdal Stream
July 31, 2025 TAXILA – Four women from the same family died and a one-year-old child remains missing after their vehicle was swept away in a flooded seasonal stream near Hassanabdal early Wednesday morning.
The tragic incident occurred near Jehri Kass, around 40 kilometers from Hassanabdal, as the family was returning from a farmhouse visit. Heavy rainfall in the region had caused the stream to swell, turning a simple crossing into a deadly trap.
Family Day Ends in Disaster
The double-cabin vehicle was carrying ten family members when it was caught by powerful floodwaters and pulled into the current.
District Emergency Officer Ali Hasnian confirmed that five members were rescued alive, while four women were found dead. The search continues for a one-year-old boy, Mustafa Khan, who is still missing.
Those rescued include Waris Khan (63), Shehryar Khan (28), Asfandyar Khan, Farhat Sheikh (55), and Aqeel Khan.
Victims Identified
The bodies recovered were:
• Nimra Bibi (25) – six months pregnant
• Nazia Bibi (50)
• Sabira Bibi (65)
• Eeman Bibi (28)
All were close family members and residents of New City, Wah Cantonment. Their bodies were found several kilometers downstream in the Haro River, and moved to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital for postmortem.
An emotional scene unfolded at the family’s home in Wah Cantt when the coffins arrived. “This is a loss beyond words,” said a relative at the hospital, overwhelmed by grief.
Eyewitness and Rescue Efforts
Eyewitness Ameer Ali, who reached the site first, said, “The vehicle was stuck and then swept away in seconds. The water was too strong.”
In response, the district administration launched an urgent rescue mission. Deputy Commissioner Rao Atif Raza and Assistant Commissioner Aqsa Imtiaz personally oversaw operations. Scuba divers from all six Rescue 1122 stations in the district were mobilized, leading to the quick recovery of the four bodies.
Warning from Authorities
Officials are urging the public to stay away from flood-affected areas during monsoon season. “Crossing streams during or after rain is extremely dangerous,” said Rescue Officer Hasnian.
As of Wednesday evening, efforts to locate the missing child were still ongoing.
