MUMBAI – Popular Indian actress and dancer Shefali Jariwala, best known for her iconic appearance in the 2002 music video Kaanta Laga, has died at the age of 42.

Shefali was rushed to Bellevue Multispeciality Hospital in Mumbai late Friday night. Doctors declared her dead on arrival, according to hospital staff. The exact cause of her death has not been confirmed, but early reports suggest a possible cardiac arrest.

Her body was later moved to Cooper Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Mumbai Police said they found her at her Andheri home around 1 a.m. and are investigating the circumstances.

The All Indian Cine Workers Association confirmed her passing on social media, saying, “Shefali Jariwala is no longer with us. Gone too soon at just 42 due to a sudden heart attack... May her soul rest in peace.”

A Legacy in Indian Pop Culture

Shefali became a household name after Kaanta Laga went viral in the early 2000s. She later acted in Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004) with Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar.

Her television career was also notable, including appearances in Bigg Boss 13 and Nach Baliye (Seasons 5 and 7), where she performed with her husband, actor Parag Tyagi.

Beyond the screen, Shefali was known for her work in raising awareness about mental health and women’s empowerment. She spoke openly about her struggle with epilepsy and used her platform to support others.
