Israeli airstrikes continued across Gaza and Syria on Tuesday, even as global concern grows over a worsening hunger crisis among children in Gaza. The United Nations has warned that the siege and lack of aid in the enclave are leading to man-made starvation.
At least 61 Palestinians were killed in Gaza in the latest Israeli attacks, including 23 people in the crowded Shati refugee camp and two near the US-backed GHF site in Rafah.
UN Raises Alarm Over Starving Children
The UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) reported that 1 in 10 children screened in its Gaza clinics are malnourished, underscoring a deepening humanitarian crisis.
"These children are not just hungry — they are starving,” said a UNRWA official. “This is a direct result of the ongoing blockade and restrictions on food, water, and medicine.”
Attacks Expand Beyond Gaza
The violence has also spread beyond Gaza. Israeli forces bombed areas in eastern Lebanon, killing 12 people, and carried out airstrikes on Suwayda, Syria — a town mostly populated by the Druze minority. Reports say armed groups in Suwayda have been clashing with Syrian security forces, further destabilizing the region.
In total, 58,479 people have been killed in Gaza since the war began in October 2023, with 139,355 wounded, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. The conflict started after 1,139 people were killed in Israel, with over 200 taken hostage.
Global Summit in Colombia
As the death toll rises, leaders from 30 countries are meeting in Bogotá, Colombia to discuss solutions to end Israel’s war on Gaza and stop its occupation of Palestinian territories.
Diplomats say they are exploring coordinated pressure through economic and political means, but no agreement has been reached yet.
