Approved seeds recommended for wheat sowing
The Agriculture Department in Bahawalpur has approved nine wheat seed varieties for November sowing to boost production.
These approved varieties include Arooj-22, Nishan-21, Dilkash-20, MH-21, Sadique-21, Nawab-21, Akbar-19, Bhakkar Star-19, and Ghazi-19. Using these approved seeds can increase wheat plant growth by 85%. To achieve optimal results, farmers should sow 40-45 kilograms of wheat seeds per acre and complete sowing by November 20.
Bahawalpur is a significant region for wheat production, with a total cultivated area of 920,000 acres. The major crops in the district include cotton, wheat, rice, and sugarcane. In fact, the Bahawalpur division recorded a wheat production of 3592.58 metric tons in the 2021-22 season.
The approved wheat seeds are suitable for the prevailing climate and soil conditions in Bahawalpur. For instance, Arooj-22 is known for its high yield potential, while Dilkash-20 is suitable for the region's climate. By using these approved seeds, farmers can enhance their wheat yields and contribute to the region's agricultural growth.
