Karachi Unites for Gaza
Thousands of people gathered in Karachi on Monday to celebrate the recently declared Gaza ceasefire, marking a significant moment of solidarity with Palestinians. The truce, which began on Sunday, led to the release of three hostages held by Hamas and 90 Palestinian detainees from Israeli jails, signaling a temporary halt to the 15-month-long conflict.
A Message of Resistance and Rebuilding
The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) religious party organized the rally on Shahrah-e-Quaideen, drawing men, women, and children waving Palestinian flags and chanting in support of Gaza.
“What happened in Gaza once again exposed the United States as the sponsor of genocide,” said Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, JI chief. He called the ceasefire a “victory of resistance forces” and urged Pakistanis to support efforts for Gaza’s reconstruction and boycott products linked to Israel and its allies.
Pakistan’s Role in Supporting Gaza
Pakistan has consistently backed the Palestinian cause, refusing to recognize Israel and advocating for an independent Palestinian state based on internationally agreed-upon parameters. The country has dispatched several relief consignments to Gaza and established a ‘Prime Minister’s Relief Fund’ to collect public donations for the war-affected population.
Hamas Representative Speaks
Addressing the rally via video link, Hamas official Khalid Qadoumi called Gaza a “Vietnam for Israel,” claiming that Israeli forces opted for a retreat due to heavy military losses.
“Israel displaced 90% of Gaza’s population and killed nearly 50,000 unarmed civilians, but it couldn’t break the resolve of Palestinian Muslims,” said Qadoumi.
A National Stand for Freedom
Prominent attendees, including Pakistani provincial lawmakers, reaffirmed their solidarity with Palestinians. Muhammad Farooq, a lawmaker, declared:
“The Palestinian freedom movement has shown the world that the life of nations thrives on resistance against oppression.”
Karachi’s rally in support of Gaza underscores Pakistan’s unwavering solidarity with Palestinians and its commitment to humanitarian efforts. The ceasefire marks a moment of hope, but the focus now shifts to rebuilding and long-term peace.
