A controversial light projection featuring Tesla CEO Elon Musk has sparked outrage after appearing on the Tesla Gigafactory in Berlin. The projection, orchestrated by British activist group Led By Donkeys and Germany's Centre for Political Beauty, displayed the phrase “Heil Tesla” alongside footage of Musk making a widely debated hand gesture.
The image references Musk’s 2017 speech during Donald Trump’s inauguration celebrations. Critics allege the gesture—a chest slap followed by an extended arm with the palm facing downward—resembles a Nazi salute. This has led to fierce backlash, especially given the sensitive historical context of Germany.
Led By Donkeys claims the stunt was aimed at highlighting what they see as Musk’s negative influence on democracy, accusing him of using his immense wealth irresponsibly.
In response, Musk took to X (formerly Twitter), the platform he owns, to dismiss the accusations, saying: “Frankly, they need better dirty tricks.”
The incident has reignited debates surrounding Musk’s polarizing public persona, his political views, and his role as one of the world’s most influential entrepreneurs. While some applaud Musk’s outspoken nature, others question whether his actions align with democratic values.
