'Apni Chhat Apna Ghar' is a Beacon of Hope by Senator Talal Chaudhry
Punjab’s Apni Chhat Apna Ghar scheme offers affordable housing to low-income families with easy loans and basic amenities.
The Apni Chhat Apna Ghar scheme is a significant housing initiative launched by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to provide affordable homes for low-income families, especially workers and laborers. This ambitious project plans to build over 100,000 houses across six cities in Punjab, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Multan, and Sargodha.
To qualify for the scheme, applicants must meet specific requirements: they must be the head of a nuclear family, a permanent Punjab resident, and earn below PKR 50,000 per month. Additionally, they should own land up to 5 marlas in urban areas or up to 10 marlas in rural areas of Punjab, where they intend to construct their home. Applicants must also have a clean criminal record and no outstanding debts to any financial institution.
The scheme features three models to support affordable housing: state land utilization, low-cost housing development, and interest-free loans for home construction. Beneficiaries can repay loans with manageable monthly payments starting from PKR 26,000. The program also includes essential utilities such as water, electricity, and sanitation, ensuring a livable environment for families.
