ICC Announces Record-Breaking $6.9 Million Prize Fund for the Tournament

Karachi, February 2025 – The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced a massive 53% increase in the prize money for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, with the winning team set to receive a staggering $2.24 million along with the prestigious trophy. The runners-up will be awarded $1.12 million, while losing semi-finalists will each take home $560,000.

The total prize pool has been set at $6.9 million, a significant rise from the $4.5 million awarded in 2017, when Pakistan lifted the trophy at The Oval.

The 2025 Champions Trophy marks the return of the elite eight-team tournament, featuring the world's top cricketing nations, with the event set to be played in Pakistan and Dubai from February 19 to March 9.

The Champions Trophy has always been regarded as a prestigious tournament, and with the increased financial stakes, teams will be more motivated than ever to claim the title.

Tournament Format & Fixtures

The Champions Trophy 2025 will follow the traditional eight-team format, where the teams are divided into two groups of four. The top two teams from each group will progress to the semi-finals before the grand final on March 9.

Each group stage win will earn teams an additional $34,000, further incentivizing strong performances from the start of the tournament.

India’s Unique Schedule – Due to political reasons, India’s matches will be played in Dubai, while the rest of the tournament will take place across Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi.

India’s MatchesAgainst Bangladesh (Feb 20), Pakistan (Feb 23), New Zealand (Mar 2) – all in Dubai
India’s Knockout Matches – If India qualifies for the semi-finals and final, those matches will also be played in Dubai.

This marks the first ICC tournament hosted in Pakistan since they co-hosted the 1996 Cricket World Cup, making it a historic event for the country.

Champions Trophy to Be Held Every Four Years

The ICC has confirmed that the Champions Trophy will now take place every four years.
The Women’s Champions Trophy will also be introduced in 2027 and will be played in the T20 format.

This move by the ICC ensures that the Champions Trophy remains a significant event in the global cricket calendar, offering a highly competitive platform for the world’s top teams.
