Pakistan's Plan for a More Effective UNSC
Pakistan supports UNSC reform by advocating for more non-permanent seats, promoting equitable representation while opposing new permanent members.
Pakistan has reaffirmed its position on United Nations Security Council (UNSC) reform, advocating for the inclusion of more non-permanent seats to enhance the Council's effectiveness, representativeness, and accountability.
As part of the Uniting for Consensus (UfC) group, Pakistan opposes the induction of new permanent members into the UNSC. Instead, the UfC suggests expanding the Council to 26 or 27 members by adding 11 or 12 non-permanent seats. This proposal aligns with the principles of the UN Charter, ensuring that the Security Council represents the interests of all member states.
The UfC's approach emphasizes equitable representation as a central goal of UNSC reform, reflecting a commitment to fairness and inclusivity in global decision-making.
