Trump Confirms Immediate Ceasefire Between India and Pakistan After 4 Days of Conflict
US President Donald Trump announces a full and immediate ceasefire between India and Pakistan after four days of escalating conflict. Both nations confirm the truce as peace talks are set to continue.

In a dramatic diplomatic breakthrough, US President Donald Trump announced on May 10 that India and Pakistan have agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire after four days of heightened military tensions that pushed South Asia to the brink of war.
"After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE," Trump posted on Truth Social.
"Congratulations to both countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence. Thank you for your attention to this matter."
This announcement follows back-channel diplomacy led by senior U.S. officials, culminating in a peace agreement set to take effect immediately. The ceasefire comes after a flurry of missile strikes, drone incursions, and cyberattacks from both sides, which began on May 7 following deadly violence in Indian-administered Kashmir.
India, Pakistan Confirm Ceasefire
Both nations confirmed the development shortly after Trump’s statement.

Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, posted on X (formerly Twitter):
“Pakistan and India have agreed to a ceasefire with immediate effect. Pakistan has always strived for peace and security in the region, without compromising on its sovereignty and territorial integrity!”

India’s Foreign Secretary also issued a formal statement:
“Pakistan's Directors General of Military Operations (DGMO) called Indian DGMO at 3:35 PM. It was agreed that both sides would stop all firing and military action across land, air, and sea by 5 PM IST today.”
Officials from both militaries will reconvene via direct communication on May 12 to ensure compliance and explore confidence-building measures.
India Sticks to Hardline on Terror
External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar emphasized India’s uncompromising position on terrorism despite agreeing to the ceasefire.
“India and Pakistan have today worked out an understanding on stoppage of firing and military action. India has consistently maintained a firm and uncompromising stance against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. It will continue to do so.”
US Diplomacy Behind the Scenes
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio shed light on the behind-the-scenes diplomacy that helped broker the peace.
“Over the past 48 hours, @VP Vance and I have engaged with senior Indian and Pakistani officials—including PMs Modi and Sharif, ministers, generals, and national security advisors. We commend both sides for choosing diplomacy over destruction.”
He also confirmed that future talks will be held at a neutral venue to address broader regional and bilateral issues.
Background: Four Days of Escalation
The latest crisis began when India launched airstrikes on what it described as “terrorist infrastructure” inside Pakistani territory. This followed a terror attack two weeks earlier in Pahalagam, Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 26 Hindu tourists. Pakistan denied any involvement.
In retaliation, both sides exchanged missile strikes, artillery fire, and engaged in cyber warfare. Civilian casualties and damage to military assets escalated fears of a broader conflict.
