Onijah Andrew Robinson Departs for New York Following Extended Stay in Karachi

???? Karachi, Pakistan – February 9, 2025Onijah Andrew Robinson, a 33-year-old American woman, has left Pakistan for New York after spending over three months in Karachi. She arrived in October 2024 to meet 19-year-old Nidal Ahmed Memon, a young man she had befriended online. However, Memon abandoned her, citing family disapproval of their marriage. His whereabouts remain unknown.

Robinson’s story gained widespread attention after Karachi-based activist Zaffar Abbas shared her ordeal on social media. Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori stepped in to extend her expired visa and facilitate her return.

After being hospitalized on February 1 at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center due to bipolar affective disorder (BPAD), Robinson was discharged on February 7 and finally boarded a flight home on Friday night, confirmed Karachi South Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Asad Raza.

While she had previously refused to leave Pakistan multiple times, Robinson did not file any legal complaint against Memon. During her stay, several Pakistani men offered marriage proposals, sympathizing with her situation.

A US Consulate spokesperson in Karachi acknowledged awareness of the case but refrained from commenting due to privacy laws. The Pakistani Foreign Office stated that the matter fell under the jurisdiction of Sindh’s local authorities.

Despite an unexpected turn of events, Robinson’s story highlights the risks of online relationships and the power of social media in bringing international cases to light.
