Phillips' Blazing Century Leads New Zealand to 78-Run Victory Over Pakistan

Lahore: A stunning 72-ball century by Glenn Phillips turned the tide in New Zealand’s favor as they secured a dominant 78-run victory over Pakistan in the first ODI of the tri-series at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium. Phillips' late fireworks propelled the visitors to 330/6, leaving Pakistan struggling in their chase despite a valiant 84-run knock by Fakhar Zaman.

Pakistan, aiming for 331, started with promise but collapsed under pressure once Fakhar was trapped LBW by Phillips. With Haris Rauf injured and unable to bat, Pakistan was bundled out for 252, handing New Zealand a convincing win.

New Zealand’s Late Blitz Stuns Pakistan

New Zealand’s innings initially faced resistance from Shaheen Shah Afridi (3-88) and Naseem Shah, keeping the scoring rate in check. Half-centuries from Kane Williamson (58) and Daryl Mitchell (81) laid the foundation, but it was Phillips' brutal assault in the last six overs that changed the game. He smashed 77 off his last 32 balls, guiding the Kiwis to a formidable total.

Pakistan’s chase began with Babar Azam opening for the first time since 2015, but his stay was short-lived as he flicked Michael Bracewell straight to midwicket. Fakhar Zaman, however, kept hopes alive with a quick-fire 84 off 69 balls, but with wickets tumbling at the other end, Pakistan’s challenge faded.
