EU Common Charger Rules: Power All Your Devices with One Cable

The European Union’s new law requiring all smartphones, tablets, and cameras to use a single, universal charger is now in effect. Under the new rule, devices sold in the 27-nation bloc must have a USB-C charging port, simplifying tech usage and cutting electronic waste.

The European Parliament confirmed that the law applies to a wide range of devices, including mobile phones, headphones, keyboards, and speakers. The goal is to make life easier for consumers by eliminating the need for multiple chargers while reducing waste from outdated cables.

This regulation, approved in 2022, gave companies until December 28, 2024, to comply, with laptop makers allowed until early 2026. While most manufacturers already use USB-C, tech giant Apple resisted the change, citing concerns over stifled innovation. However, Apple began releasing iPhones with USB-C ports in September 2023, ahead of the deadline.

The new rules are a step toward a more sustainable future and a hassle-free experience for tech users.
