Gang-Rape and Acid Attack Victim Dies at Bahawal Victoria Hospital

BAHAWALPUR: A tragic case of abuse and violence ended in sorrow as Seemab Iqbal, a woman who was abducted, gang-raped, and subjected to an acid attack, passed away at Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH) on Monday after battling for her life for over two weeks.

According to police reports, Seemab had traveled from Khichiwala in Fort Abbas Tehsil, Bahawalnagar, to Bahawalpur in search of a job. She was residing in a private hostel in Asef Town when she went missing. Her brother, Zohaib Iqbal, filed a complaint with Baghdadul Jadid police after losing contact with her.

On December 9, Seemab was brought to BVH in critical condition by two men who attempted to flee after leaving her in the emergency ward. Alerted by their suspicious behavior, onlookers apprehended one suspect, identified as Haroon, while the other managed to escape.

Doctors confirmed that Seemab had been gang-raped and suffered acid burns. Following her death, section 302 (murder) was added to the initial FIR, which had already included charges of abduction, rape, and attempted murder. Both suspects are now in police custody and under interrogation.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz expressed sympathy with the victim's family and has sought a detailed report from the regional police officer (RPO). Police continue their investigation to ensure justice for Seemab.
