The capital police are preparing for a large-scale response to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest scheduled for November 24. To ensure public order and control any potential unrest, the police have requested a range of anti-riot equipment, including 40,000 teargas shells, 2,000 teargas guns, 50,000 rubber bullets, and 2,500 guns. Additionally, 5,000 anti-riot kits are required to strengthen the anti-riot units.

In terms of manpower, the police are seeking 22,000 security personnel and 1,200 containers to block protest routes. This large-scale deployment will demand substantial resources, including millions of rupees for food and transportation for both local and visiting security forces during their deployment in the city.

To further manage potential disruptions, the capital administration has extended the ban on 10 specific activities for an additional two months under Section 144. This colonial-era law grants authorities the power to restrict public gatherings and maintain public order.

While Section 144 is being used to ensure stability, its application has sparked concerns, as it has historically been employed to suppress protests and restrict democratic rights. Critics argue that its use can silence political activity and undermine civil freedoms.
